welcome back everyone a retired Army veteran who overcame his service-related struggles is now helping other veterans his goal is to show those at war with themselves to find peace beyond the uniform Chris six news reporter Ashley Portillo explains Dominic Franko struggled when he got out of the Army when I got out I had my own issues we interviewed Franko in December what he told Chris 6:00 news of his own struggles with alcohol as a coping mechanism but now he’s turned a corner and is helping other veterans turn corners – after getting into fitness I realized that was a great way to deal with whatever stressors I had in life in January Franko started hosting workouts the first and third Saturday of the month here at Col Park now about a dozen veterans are showing up including gilbert toronto who says these workouts are making a difference in his life it doesn’t just lift our spirits it also lets us physically spiritual and physical supports are key for our nation’s veterans many face anxiety and depression some turned to drugs alcohol and even suicide but for Army veteran Sam long franco’s bi-weekly workouts are a way to stay in shape and engaged you’re not active in stuff a lot of veterans tend to just isolate and drink or self-medicate and Serato agrees being with the group of people who are like-minded it just makes it a lot easier to do Franko tells us the workouts are free and anyone is welcome including veterans with disabilities for Franco it’s just a way to give back and make a difference one workout at a time come out get a workout in feel better and go on about your day ashley Portillo kris 6 news probably gives him some sense of camaraderie again also now for more information and a link to Franko social media pages log on to our website at Kris tv.com
