Baker Repeals Old Laws Related to Women’s Health

(HE) MASSACHUSETTS TAKES ACTION TO HELP PROTECT WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. THIS MORNING, GOVERNOR BAKER SIGNED A BILL THAT REPEALS SEVERAL ARCHAIC LAWS RELATED TO WOMEN’S HEALTH — INCLUDING AN ENFORCED BAN ON ABORTION THAT DATES BACK TO 18-45. THE MOVE IS MEANT TO PROTECT AGAINST THE POTENTIAL THAT FEDERAL ABORTION RIGHTS COULD BE OVERTURNED BY A MORE CONSERVATIVE SUPREME COURT — TRIGGERING OLD STATE LAWS THAT HAVEN’T BEEN ENFORCED IN DECADES. “Given the context on the federal level and the ongoing sort of intensity of the debate about some of these issues in DC, we simply felt, both the legislature and the administration, that we should just clean-up the state’s books with respect to these issues.” (HE) THE BILL ALSO REPEALS OTHER ARCHAIC LAWS — INLCUING LIMITS ON CONTRACEPTION AND BANS ON ADULTERY AND FORNICATION.
