Breast cancer can affect anyone

Breast cancer can affect anyone

I’m Sally Hurst. I’m a journalist, a cyclist, a
mom of two and I’ve had cancer twice. I was 23 when I was diagnosed. Before finding the lump and
seeing the doctors it just wasn’t
even on my radar. It’s not something that I’d
had in my family or heard about in my family or
read anywhere in the news or anywhere like
that, that young people caught it, it was
known as something that older women
got. Unfortunately my wife was diagnosed with Breast
cancer in October (I find this
hard). My hope has got to be that
actually they find a way of preventing the disease for future generations of women and men because, don’t forget men also get
breast cancer. When you are faced with a
disease like breast cancer. It is, it is really like
falling off a cliff and you don’t really
know when you’re going to hit
the bottom. But it is absolutely critical. I was very, very fortunate. My family were amazing. My friends gave me lots of
support and I think when something so
terrible like that happens in
your life. The good, good things come out
of it. And I think that’s where you really do appreciate the network of people that you
know because it really does help you get through it, very
much so. I think anyone who goes
through cancer treatment and comes out the other side
smiling is pretty awesome so I can say it about other people I think
I just find it tricky to say about myself. A breast cancer free future
would be amazing for my children. For everyone. Charity personally means my,
my life and my future to me. I Had a lot hurdles to get
through at the beginning and for
someone so young to make so many, now I know they were
huge decisions to have to make at the
beginning. But those decisions with the
support that I had. Have led me where I am now and
I have a future, I have my little girl which at
one point I didn’t think was
possible. And that’s all down to the
research and the genetics that are
being done by the charity.
