Breast Surgeon Team – Lincoln Surgical Associates – Belleville IL

The reason I became interested in breast health
is because I see it as a field that’s just starting. For obvious reasons, it’s been in the forefront
for many years, but we’re finding so many new things about how to help women with benign
disease, and breast cancer how to treat them, and how to even prevent cancer, and have people
become more aware, and finding women that are higher risk and help them fight cancers
earlier. So it’s a continuum from not just somebody
coming into your office…many years ago with the large obvious breast cancer, physical
examination, and have minimal treatment…but it’s really evolved into finding breast cancer
so small that it is so much more curable, but even before that preventing…that’s what
really has attracted me to the field. It’s very gratifying to help a woman who is
very understandably concerned and stressed about what may happen through all this. From the time that we meet
somebody who has an abnormal mammogram to their benign diagnosis or when they actually
get cancer, I have found very professionally and personally gratifying to be a small part
of it…to develop a professional relationship with somebody where, based on trust, that
you can help somebody along that process. I think anything we can do to make the process
easier on them because Lord knows they get bombarded with so much. I think anything that we could just do just
to help that process along and let them know if you have any other questions anything else
I can do to make this easier help, you know, your process along. And I just think that’s what’s rewarding and
what’s worth it…just and we get told that many times how nice we are to them, how patient
we are with them, and always taking the time to listen to them are you know do something
even though you know there was like I know you’re busy but you know but you have to show
me that’s what I’m here for…I’m here for you so don’t worry about at my job. We recently have added a nurse practitioner
to our practice, and the reason we did that is because our practice has been growing,
and we’d like to be able to serve even more our community. Our nurse practitioner is able to screen many
of our initial consultations, also then to help and screen or follow ups as well as deuce
are some of our standard cancer follow-ups. What have I found is that most women enjoy
seeing my nurse practitioner because it’s another part of their team. It’s all a team approach, and they enjoy being
able to be to be to be seen by somebody else the office that they know and like, and she’s
very well liked, and I have another colleague in the office that I’m able to see patients
with that we can see together, and if I happen to be
in surgery and something is in the office that she could see so it’s a it’s a collaborative
effort on our part. Patients enjoy that there they oftentimes
expecting offices to be at least partially taking care of my nurse practitioner, but
what it’s allowed me to do then is to be able to expand the services that I’m able to offer
and be able to take care of more of our community. I think making the connection with the patient
just getting to know them on a personal level and then seeing them you know get through
their treatment and and being cancer-free.
