Centering Pregnancy – Learn How This Program is Helping Young Women

I got pregnant when I was 17 living with
my parents at home. When I first found out I was pregnant I was really shocked.
I had, at that time, me and my boyfriend were planning on going to college and
you we wanted to go out of state. What made me decide to join the program
would be that it included all like first-time moms which I felt very
comfortable attending because I knew I wouldn’t be alone with my questions and
worries. We see a lot of younger moms between the ages of 17 to 23. All of our
patients here are Medicaid patients or uninsured. The purpose of the program is
to provide women with a lot more education than they would normally be
getting in a 15-minute visit, which is our normal visit. It allows them two full
hours with a provider. Pretty amazing to see the growth among the patients, the
knowledge that they’re learning and absolutely confidence that they get as
they continue from group to group. I think what surprised me the most was the
delivery process itself. I felt like I was really scared and nervous about it
but they gave us a lot of information that would help us get through it. We see
a lot higher vaginal delivery rather than c-section and we see lower rates of
low birth weight as well as lower rates of preterm delivery. With healthier
pregnancies comes a lot of positives for mom’s future as well as baby’s future. My
son, he’s great. He didn’t have any complications and he’s been growing really fast.
