Dr. Gayllyn Faust-Rakos Video Profile

– Hello, my name is Gayllyn Faust-Rakos, and I’m a gynecologist. I’m working with Coordinated Health at their Lehighton campus once a week and then also in Allentown on Pond Road. I’ll be providing gynecology services from pediatrics through geriatrics, all the preventative healthcare services, as well as problem services. I’ve always been a
caregiver my entire life, and so as a child, I would
bring home stray dogs and little birds that fell out of nests and try to nurse them back to health. It became a very natural
progression for me to go from doing that as a child to being very interested in medicine. I did some summer jobs
at a local nursing home, and then I did work in an
acute care psychiatric facility for a while, mostly
summers during college, and was then exposed to
the specialty of gynecology and found that that was a much better fit and that I had a real
passion for women’s health. By the time I entered medical school, I knew I was going to go into
obstetrics and gynecology. I grew up in the local area,
actually in the Poconos, and traveled to Bethlehem to go to college at Moravian College where I completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. From there, I went to the Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine on City Avenue in Philadelphia
to complete my D.O. Degree. After that, I came back
up to the Allentown area and attended Allentown
Osteopathic Medical Center, what is now St. Luke’s Allentown, to do a rotating
internship and then stayed with the St. Luke’s Network
to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. From there, I continued
to work as an OB/GYN and became board-certified in 2002. I’m a Fellow of the
American College of OB/GYN. Coordinated Health, as a hospital network, is able to offer integrated healthcare in a variety of service areas. Musculoskeletal, which was
the area that sort of started all of Coordinated Health, has expanded into family practice and cardiology, and I think it was a
very natural progression into women’s health services. The Women’s Health Division here at Coordinated Health is a new division. Now, women can use the same facility that they trust with doctors
that they already utilize, and they can continue those
services into women’s health. It’s a great way to introduce new patients who aren’t familiar with the
Coordinated Health Network to a whole new network. I really like the Lehigh Valley area because you have all of the
benefits of being in a big city where we have great hospital
networks, great equipment. We don’t have to worry
about sending patients for ancillary services and getting either equipment that isn’t
as good as in other places or unable to find specialists that aren’t as good as in other places. We really have top-notch healthcare here in the Lehigh Valley, and yet, we don’t live in a major city. I love talking to patients. I love having that year-to-year experience where you keep up with their lives and you see people grow and change through some of the best
times of their lives and some of the worst
times in their lives, but to be there as a person
who helps people through.
