Duke Health Profiles: Susann L. Clifford, MD

Hi my name is Sue Clifford. I am an OBGYN physician with
Duke Women’s Health Associates. I was actually sick as a child. I had a heart condition and spent a lot of
time in and out of offices and hospitals. I kind of was inspired for
a career in medicine early on. I really enjoy the healthy patients and it’s a mostly a very
positive practice we have. We have young,
healthy women having babies. We have middle aged women going through
other transitions with menopause. Predominately we take care
of well women which is nice. I came to Duke to train in 1993 for residency and loved it so
much I never left. In fact, I am one of the founding partners
of Dukeland’s Health from back in 1997. What makes us unique around
here is not only are we all very well trained physicians but we have very well trained physicians and
other specialties at our fingertips. When our patients do have complications or
other issues that require other specialists, we really have
an ability to get them in quickly. We also have a premiere intensive care
nursery, so in the unlikely event that infants need help,
we can provide that pretty easily as well. I have two kids. A junior in high school and
an eighth grader, and I enjoy following them around to all
their different sports activities and watching them grow and
become wonderful members of our society.
