Duke Medicine Profiles: Corey Bolac, MD

Hi, I’m Corey Bolac, I’m a physician
at Duke Women’s Health Associates. I think growing up,
I always had an interest in science and was kind of drawn towards that. Admittedly, I think in high school
I wanted to become a veterinarian. But then after having more experience,
both in the veterinary field as well as in medicine, I realized I was drawn
more towards taking care of people. I think it was my experience
with the patient population. I think women’s health provides a unique
experience of getting to interact with women at different stages in their life. And I found that particularly enjoyable. And I think OB/GYN is really
a particularly exciting time for most women’s lives and it varies in stages
of their lives that we get to see, and I think that’s a particularly
rewarding experience. I think Duke has several benefits. One of which is that we have
resources to outstanding clinicians in a variety of
fields at our fingertips. I also think that one of my favorite part
at Duke is that I feel like everyone holds themselves to another standard or holds themselves to a high personal
standard that I’m proud to be a part of. And I find it incredibly rewarding. Frequently I have to stop and remind
myself that this is my day job, that this is what I get to come and do every day
is experience these moments with people. I spend most of my time currently
outside of work with my family, I have two young children and so
that consumes a lot of our free time. When they’re asleep or I have time kind
of to myself I enjoy eating a lot. So my husband and I enjoy exploring
the food scene here in the Triangle.
