KATIE: TONIGHT A FAMILY SAYS THEIR 17 YEAR OLD TEEN WITH DOWN SYNDROME’S DREAMS ARE CRUSHED AFTER THEY SAY HIS COACHED KICKED HIM OFF THE WEST HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING SQUAD. MARK: BUT THE TEAM AND SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE TELLING A DIFFERENT STORY. NBC4’S ROB SNEED REPORTS. ROB: “THE TEENS FAMILY TOLD ME THEY FELT AS THOUGH THE BOY WAS BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE OF HIS DISABILITIES. BUT THE DISTRICT SAYS HE IS INDEED ON THE TEAM . HE WAS NEVER KICKED OFF THIS IS GLEN WILSON IN HIS ELEMENT. THE 17 YEAR OLD TRIED OUT FOR WEST HIGH SCHOOL’S CHEERLEADING SQUAD……AND MADE IT. VALENTINE: “HE WAS CONGRATULATED BY THREE MEMBERS OF THE WEST HIGH SCHOOL FACILITY . AS WELL AS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FOR MAKING THE TEAM.” THIS WAS EXCITING NEWS FOR HIS UNCLE RAY VALENTINE….WHO ‘S ONE OF WILSON’S BIGGEST CHEERLEADERS. YOU SEE….THE 17 YEAR OLD HAS DOWN SYNDROM AND HAS ALWAYS WORKED EXTRA HARD TO OVERCOME HARDSHIPS.
