Joyce Ildesa, MD, Family Medicine

My name is Joyce Idelsa and I work in
family medicine. I chose to become a doctor because I had a really good relationship
with my health care provider when I was in
college. She was really down to earth, she was an educator, she helped me feel
comfortable asking questions I had about my health and I remember thinking that I would really like to be that type of person for other people who had questions about their
own health My main interest in medicine is
preventive care, especially women’s health. I think a lot of women I
tend to prioritize their children their partners andn their career and forget to take care of
themselves. Oftentimes I find that if they don’t
take care of themselves they really can’t be effective in their own roles in the rest of their lives. The
most important part of the doctor-patient relationship is
communication. I really need to know what my patients are afraid of. What are they willing to
do to take care of themselves. The most satisfying part of my job is
the relationship I establish with my patients. I love practicing with Scripps because Our site in particular here at Santee is smaller I think our staff works
together to be proactive to help our patients the camaraderie amongst all the
physicians is amazing here at our site we can talk to the pediatricians if we have questions and even with a specialist outside of
our site–they are always open to helping us out and and getting our
answers for patients It is important for people to get
regular checkups so that they can be monitored in case there are small
changes happening when they’re still asymptomatic. My
hobbies and personal interests include being outdoors. I enjoy
running– I’ve run several half marathons Someone should have a primary care
physician to help navigate them through the health care system
