As a general Gynaecologist, I do see
women right across the spectrum of their lives.
So you’ve got the the spring in your adolescents, your
young teens and early twenties where it’s all about
rubella vaccinations which we can do in preparation, HPV vaccinations which help prevent
cancer of the cervix, sexual health checks.
Again, all about women and young girls taking control of their well-being; I think this is the emphasis. And then you’ve got in your thirties and
forties, which is really the summer of your life. It’s when everything’s
happening; when women are fit, they’re young and it’s keeping them
well, keeping them active so they can come in for well women packages, which can include sort of full cardiovascular, full gynaecological
checks, smear tests and HPV tests, just general sexual health checks.
During this period we can concentrate on issues around
heavy periods or painful periods and it really just depends on what the
issues are. Over the years, gynaecology has moved from dealing primarily with disease to
more about prevention of disease, so here at the London Wellwoman Clinic, the actual name of the Clinic, so of
typifies the sort of women we see: These are women who have decided to take
control of their health, we are here looking after all
aspects of women’s health from adolescence right through to
menopause through conceptual, pre-fertility, MOT tests, this is a new
phrase that we tend to use for optimisation prior to getting pregnant, we see women after they’ve been
pregnant they’ve got bladder problems or issues
around sort of vaginal prolapse, and again that can all be seen and treated.
Going through premenstrual symptoms but there is a wide range of conditions that we see.
While emphasis is on pre-optimisation and prevention, there are of course some women who do have to disease. This is the place where you can get unbiased advice, full explanation using no jargon and really exploring
with women what fits them, what is right for them at that particular time in their journey
