>>Mel Kurtulus, MD:
I’m extremely
passionate robotic surgery because I really believe
that it gives the best surgical outcomes to the patients,
and especially in women’s health because I really believe
that that’s an area that we can really make a difference. With the type of surgeries that we do, which is completely
different than traditional surgeries,
patients go home the same day, they don’t have to stay
in the hospital. And when they go home, they have
less need for pain medications, less need for staying in bed, so
they can adopt back to their life immediately. Scripps is a family. The way that I see it is Scripps
is a family of physicians. I’ve been a Scripps physician
over 20 years. I think system works seamlessly. Everyone integrates with each other very well. I’m one of the few doctors in the country that has been
given the title of being an epicenter surgeon. I teach and train other doctors how to perform robotic surgery. When the patients know that their surgeon
is an epicenter surgeon like me, they know that they’re getting
the best in their field. [begin music] The most rewarding part of my
job is really seeing the patients feel better after
surgery and their satisfaction and how happy they are,
and they return back to their loved ones and the things they
like to do in no time. That’s what makes me happy. [end music]
