Hi, my name is Robin DeMarco and I’m a lifestyle coach and contributor at Women’s Health magazine. This week is National Women’s Health Week, which is all about empowering women to make their health a priority. Practicing good oral care is so important to help reduce the risk of everything from heart disease, cancer and even pregnancy complications. Fifty percent of Americans don’t go to the dentist yearly because of dentalphobia, whether it be finances or even just plain neglect. Spend some quality time with your dentist and make sure to go at least two times a year. Second, it’s really important to brush. This seems like a given, but it’s something you should be doing at least two minutes a day two times a day. A product we really love is Colgate Total Advanced. It’s FDA approved. It’s American Dental Association accepted to help prevent gingivitis, which is also so important. It’s a one-stop shop. It literally fights cavities, it reduces plaque and strengthens enamel. Another product we love is Colgate 360 Total, which is great toothbrush line that they have. May is actually National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. You want to go to your doctor to have that yearly checkup. And also something else you can do to safeguard yourself against those harmful rays is to always wear sunscreen. A product we love that you’ll see right here is Alba Botanica New Spray Sunscreen SPF 50. It provides broad-spectrum UVA UVB protection and is water resistant up to 80 minutes. The formulas are also biodegradable, made with no harsh chemical preservatives and even the packaging is environmentally friendly, which we love. It’s not tested on animals and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. It’s really great for daily wear. And then finally, something else that’s really important that a lot of women don’t focus on is feminine health. It’s so important to always maintain those pH levels. You can do this through diet or different lifestyle changes. For example, add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Fruits and dark leafy greens such as kale and spinach are highly alkalizing and they help neutralize acid. Also highly pigmented fruits and vegetables whether it be raspberries or even beets are also alkaline. Or as you see here, root vegetables, whether they be onions or sweet potatoes, they have a chemical called inulin which can also promote healthy bacteria. And finally it’s a really good idea to take a probiotic. Probiotics can help pH levels by regulating healthy bacteria in the body. A product that’s a great option is RepHresh Pro-B Probiotic Feminine Supplement which is clinically shown to balance yeast and bacteria to maintain feminine health. There’s also a lot of other products in the line that you can check out and try. And finally, as you see over here, something that is so important is maintaining your stress levels. Stress can be linked to so many major illnesses in the U.S. from heart disease to cancer to depression, you name it. Some little tweaks that you can make in your day is, one, just go outside. Get outside into nature. That natural light exposure is so important to release the mood-lifting chemical serotonin. Vitamin D can also be very helpful with this. Second, meditation and mindfulness. It literally only takes 15 to 30 minutes a day. Just focus on your breath. Make sure that you’re with your thoughts and this little amount of peace can have major payoff. And finally, you’ve it heard before, but exercise exercise, exercise! Whether that be tai chi, yoga, running or whatever it is that you love to do, it has so many benefits. One is that it releases endorphins into the brain, which are also mood-enhancing. So all in all, what’s most important is that you’re really making those appointments this week, year round. And also constantly making your health a priority. For more tips, you can go to Women’s Health magazine for womenshealthmag.com.
