Obstetrician Gynecologist: Joanne T. Piscitelli, MD

Hi, I’m Joanne Piscitelli. I’m one of the physicians with
Duke Women’s Health Associates group. One of the things I enjoy
most about obstetrics and gynecology is the combination of more
acute problems that you treat but also the long-term relationships
that you get with patients. I now have accumulated
patients that I’ve seen for almost 30 years now and
seen them grow and their families grow. And sometimes seeing their daughters
along the way is very gratifying. The majority of our care is
with reproductive age women particularly during pregnancy and
the postpartum period. But we also do a lot of primary
care in terms of health screening, gynecologic exams. I personally see some children and
adolescents, and I particularly enjoy the adolescents. It’s a fun group to work with. And, as well as on into
the menopause years, we treat all the different disorders
associated with menopause. Well, I actually came to Duke from medical
school many many years ago [LAUGH] and ended up marrying one of my colleagues,
or my fellow medical student. So, he’s from North Carolina so,
he ended up wanting to stay in the area. I went to Duke for my residency,
and then stayed on the faculty. We’ve raised all of our children here and
some of whom also went to Duke. [LAUGH] So it’s become a family tradition. My passion has now
become doing triathlons. [LAUGH] So I do a lot of swimming,
biking, running. I’m pretty much doing something
outdoors every day, or in the gym, and so I’m currently training for my first
Ironman so I’m very excited about that. [LAUGH]
