Obstetrician Gynecologist: Nicole P. Kerner, MD

Hi, I’m Nicole Kerner. I’m a OB/GYN with
Duke Women’s Health Associates. I decided I wanted to become
an obstetrician at a very young age. When I was seven,
my mom was pregnant with my little sister. And I really became fascinated
with pregnancy and birth, and started saying at that point,
I’m gonna deliver babies when I grow up. And I really stayed with it. I’m still fascinated by it. I think what we get to do on
a daily basis is so rewarding. Bringing new life into the world and
being such a special part of a family experience
is probably the best part. Obviously, I like caring for
pregnant patients. I also really enjoy taking care of
adolescents who are having problems with their periods and
kinda transitioning into adulthood. I also enjoy menopausal patients and
helping them through that transition. I feel that we have just the greatest
ability to really care for patients. When everything goes well,
it’s fantastic and we can do that. But when things aren’t going as well, we’re also well equipped to deal with any
complications or emergencies that arise. I grew up in Upstate New York,
and my husband and I met in medical school in Buffalo,
New York. And then he and I,
through doing our residencies, have covered a lot of the Northeast. We moved to North Carolina with great
job opportunities and a nicer climate. And luckily,
our families have followed us. So we really love it here. I love to run. I’m training right now for
the New York City Marathon in the fall. And I love to watch my kids play lacrosse. I have three kids and
they’re all really into lacrosse, so we spend a lot of time on the sidelines. Just being outside,
spending time outdoors with my family.
