Orthopaedics: Andrea Evenski, MD

Hello I’m Dr. Andrea Evenski and I’m an
orthopaedic oncologist here at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute. It’s all
about making patients tumor free, whether that’s a benign or cancerous lesion. It’s
a relatively rare subspecialty it’s about only about 200 of us within the
United States, we treat benign and malignant or cancerous and non cancerous soft tissue masses within the muscle or within the bone. MU Health Care is a great
place to work it provides a lot of opportunities. For my particular
specialty in orthopaedic oncology, we require a multidisciplinary team
approach that’s all provided here for the patients; it gives the opportunity
for me to work with a team of colleagues and a team of physicians to adequately
treat patients and give them the best patient care. We have an extended
relationship with our patients based on what we do, because we have to follow
them for a long period of time and that allows me to kind of know the patient
very well and really be a part of their family. I get invited to some of their
birthday parties and post-chemo parties and my family goes and enjoys you
know being part of their family which is definitely a very special relationship I
have with those patients. Patients always give me hugs, I make such a difference in
their lives or at least my team makes such a difference in their lives that
they are so appreciative of what we can do for them. I am the first physician in
my family and I’m sure they’re proud of kind of what we have I’ve accomplished
in my life.
