Preventive Care for Men

Preventive Care for Men

HOST:
Hello…And a healthy welcome to you from IEHP, your Inland Empire Health Plan. With all of the health benefits and services
we provide, we believe you should know the best way to use them. In the next few minutes, we’d like to show
you the importance of Preventive care for men. Part of your health plan includes a preventive care program. Preventive care means services
you get to help avoid getting sick — or to help spot a disease early. So get the following
health screenings and exams. Start with a physical exam each year. When you do, you may be asked to
take a urine test — a blood test — a cholesterol test — and, you’ll be screened for diabetes. At age 40, you should start getting a prostate exam every year. It helps to spot signs of
cancer early, when treatment works best. Ask your doctor about a colonoscopy test when
you turn 50. Good mental health is also part of a your
overall health. So, tell your doctor if you’ve been under a lot of stress —
at work or at home. Early treatment, if you need it, can help
you feel better a lot sooner. Be active. Do what you can to exercise or move about. Maybe you can take a walk a few
times a week. But, check with your doctor first. Eat healthier foods. Foods high in fiber,
fruits and vegetables… and ones low in animal fats. If you smoke, ask us how to quit. Do all these things and you can cut
your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer.
We offer many health education programs you can sign up for. Topics include stop smoking,
asthma, weight loss, diabetes and lowering high blood pressure. Remember, see your doctor at least once a year for a physical exam and don’t forget
to get a flu shot. Practice preventive care, and you’ll be on your way to feeling better. And, that’s what IEHP is all about! If you have any questions about preventive care, please call IEHP Member Services.
The phone number is on the back of your IEHP Member ID Card. Let IEHP show you how to get the most out
