Research Therapy: Women’s Health Resources

Are you looking for women’s sex health
information for yourself or “a friend”? Perhaps you have an assignment to present on
the benefits of the new HPV vaccine on both men and women– and you have no idea what Human
Papillomavirus is or how it’s spread? If you’re looking for a website that gives you
objective and authoritative women’s health and
wellness information, take a look at Women’s Health Resources, a collection of research funded by the National
Institutes of Health, found at whr.nlm.nih.gov The National Institutes of Health is the largest
source of funding for medical research in world. Women’s Health Resources stems from a
partnership between the National Library of Medicine Outreach and
Special Populations Branch and the National Institutes of Health Office of
Research on Women’s Health to promote
research in this field. Let’s take a look! From the Women’s Health Resources home
page, look at the Health Topics You can browse the status of clinical trials, read formal research articles from PubMed, get basic health information from MedlinePlus,
and more. Use the A-Z Index to browse through a list of
topics. Or, to search across NIH resources, just use the
search box. Women’s Health Resources covers much more
than sexual health. Many health issues affect men and women
differently, and yet a disproportionate amount of biomedical research and clinical trials have
historically been done on white men. The NIH is at the forefront of research on health
disparities on account of gender, race, and
ethnicity and is prioritizing research on topics surrounding
gender identity and sexual orientation. You can browse this information under Health
Disparities/Differences and Diversity as well as Gender Identity. Women’s Health Resources is a great starting
place for sex and health information online. If you have any questions about finding health
and wellness information, a librarian is happy to help. See you at our next session!
