My name is Ryan Terlecki and I’m one of the
urologists at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
I specialize in urologic reconstruction, infertility, and men and women’s sexual health.
In regards to men’s and women’s sexual health, I treat from a variety of standpoints.
The first would have to be in terms of desire, or what we call libido. We can treat this
in men, sometimes in the instance of testosterone replacement therapy, if their blood levels
necessitate that. Similar therapy can be considered in select
women. In terms of treatments for sexual dysfunction,
per se, we have a variety of both medical and surgical options for appropriate candidates.
As a reconstructive surgical expert within urology, I treat a variety of conditions such
as urethral strictures – which are simply areas of scar tissue within the urethra, or,
the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside world.
As well as conditions such as Peyronie’s disease which is associated with abnormal
curvature of the male erection. My philosophy in treating patients at Wake
Forest Baptist Medical Center is that my best patient is the most informed patient.
So I find that by presenting them with all of the options and all the information allows
them to make informed decisions and increases their satisfaction.
It’s also important for me to gauge their expectations initially and to assure them
that we can come to a plan that will satisfactorily meet those expectations and often exceed them.
