I am Sara Soto, I’m an ob/gyn obstetrics and gynecology physician. I did my medical school at UC Irvine and then I did my residency training at Kaiser Los Angeles. You know, ever since I was little, this was always what I wanted to do and initially I thought I wanted to be a family doctor and I thought “oh I can do a little bit of everything” and then as soon as I realized that sort of all of my favorite patients, my favorite experiences, my favorite things, all had to do with women, is when I realized that this is really the field for me. I love that I can do everything. I can be in the office, I can be delivering babies the next day, I can be doing surgeries the next day, I feel like it gives me a little bit of everything and it’s just the best career. I think if I wasn’t practicing medicine, I think I might be a stay-at-home mom. I love my family, I love my children and it’s so gratifying being with them. So I love doing Crossfit, I am an avid crossfitter, so that includes Olympic weightlifting and running and rowing and pull-ups and all of that sort of stuff and I didn’t think that I would like it as much as I do, but I think that being able to have an outlet to all of the stress of work really helps. I think there there was one experience that I had with a mother who was delivering twins and we worked together as a team to be able to get her delivered and she had some postpartum complications and then to see her kind of be so sick and then come back six weeks later with perfectly beautiful healthy twins and to be healthy and happy and so excited about her care, was just a neat experience. I think that it’s a privilege to be in medicine and I think it’s a privilege to be an obstetrician-gynecologist because we’re there for some of the most unique, memorable moments of people’s lives. [Music] What’s unique about PIH Health is that it’s a hospital for the community. It’s a hospital that’s been around, most of the people that work here live in this community, where they have a lot of ties to this community. I was born at PIH Health, so I would say that at PIH Health definitely the patient is first and I think that’s what makes us special.
