what’s up guys I’m Ebenzer Samuel
creator the new rules of Muscle video program I spend a lot of my training
time using free weights but today I’m at powertec HQ taking a look at a couple
of the machines that they have because machines have a really cool place in the
workout if you can find a way to integrate them the great thing about
something like this is when I’m training with it I can go a little bit heavier
still incorporate some of the unilateral and tempo aspects of training that I
really like to get into but I can overload my body a little bit very
safely and push to a couple more reps like I can get a little bit of extra
work in so that’s what I like about something like this the other thing I
really like about this machine too and it’s kind of special in this way is that
in a lot of these machines you wind up on one track and you can only move
bilaterally I can get this machine to work unilaterally just by pulling this
clip and this sets it up so that I can actually train on this machine using one
of my favorite inclined press variations that I’m going to show you right now I
call it the mixed style incline press and this is how you guys probably do it
often we’re pressing both sides at the same time and that’s great for strength
that’s great for overall overload when we do something like that we get to go
very heavy and we really just get to challenge our whole body and kind of get
that overall just were fighter flight we’re gonna go real heavy response what
I like to do though is mix in what I call a unilateral press where I’m
basically gonna go with the left arm I’m gonna do two reps and then with the
right I’m gonna do two reps what I’m doing there is I’m gonna have to
stabilize through my shoulder when I’m holding the other side up so both sides
want to working a ton I’m getting the reps on one side stabilizing with my
shoulder on the other side and the whole time my core has to work there’s a great
level of anterior tation what I’m gonna show you guys because when I have this
press down on one side you’re gonna see my torso could easily tip towards that
side it’s going to be on my obliques and on my entire core to stabilize keep my
hips and shoulders square facing that ceiling the entire time and all I’m
doing I’m really focusing on bracing my core to that bench I’m not gonna over
arch I’m really gonna tighten my core to the bench squeeze through my glutes
and now I’m just reppin two reps to one side two reps to the other and then two
reps to both sides so there’s also a great poor balance switching aspect to
this in that my core is never doing the same thing throughout this entire set
but it has to continually adjust to different situations
and that’s our ABS work in real life which is why I really like this series
now normally if I’m doing this with dumbbells I’m probably gonna want end up
doing 1216 reps on the high end but again because I’m on this machine and
because I have these arms and it’s a nice safe arc I can keep pushing if I
want to I can push to a point of fatigue that I can’t again I can’t get this with
a pair of dumbbells again the dumbbells have a lot of great aspects to them
that’s my preferred way of training but when I’m on something like this I can
really burn out I can also overload the weight with a little bit more than I
have now if I really want to I’m working in a nice safe way really challenging my
abs and starting to burn out my chest too so that is how I would execute the
mix style dumbbell press on here the mixed bow machine press really getting a
great burn on my chest really working that shoulder stabilization aspect and I
can really lock in my form because again I have that machine take my time as I do
it I’m getting a really good core burn – that’s all I got for you guys
