Hello guys, Adam here from Strength Compass Today, I want to talk to you about the best apps to integrate with Apple Health. If you are like me and use an iPhone or Apple Watch then please stay tuned! Note, the apps we shall be discussing are mostly available on Android too, but the focus here is on iPhone and Apple Watch usage. The Apple Health app makes it easy to learn about your health and start reaching your goals. You can read more about the Health App via the website at apple.com. Just do a simple search for “Apple Health”. The Health app on iOS highlights four categories: Activity, Mindfulness, Nutrition and Sleep For each category, the Health app can integrate with a wide variety of different third-party apps. When you connect an app with Apple Health it appears under “Sources”. Apple Health consolidates health data from your iPhone, Apple Watch, and third-party apps you already use, so you can view all your progress in one convenient place. The Today view shows all your stats at a glance to help you stay on track. You have a lot of choice, so what are the best app for each category Here are the recommendations given by StrengthCompass in each of the four categories. Finding a moment to take a few deep breaths and quiet your mind is a great way to relieve stress and improve your overall health. That’s what mindfulness is all about. For mindfulness, StrengthCompass recommends Calm! The Calm app helps you decompress and stay centred throughout your day. Calm offers 100s of guided meditations covering anxiety, focus, stress, sleep, relationships and more. Calm also has an excellent Apple Watch companion app, and Health adds up the numbers to show you how much time you’ve spent being mindful. Getting a good night’s sleep helps restore and repair your body. So going to bed at the same time every night and getting the right amount of rest can improve how you feel. For sleep, StrengthCompass recommends Calm! Yes, that’s right – Calm is also considered the best app for helping with sleep too. Calm offers bedtime stories, sleep meditations, relaxing bedtime music and more. Calm feeds information into Health so you can get into a healthier sleep routine and combines nicely with the Bedtime feature in the Clock app. Whether you’re counting carbs, calories, caffeine, or a host of other important nutritional metrics, the Health app makes it easier to manage your goals and watch exactly what you eat. For nutrition, StrengthCompass recommends MyFitnessPal! MyFitnessPal can help you keep a closer eye on every meal, and since all the data is displayed in Health, you’ll always know if you’re getting the nourishment you need. It is easy to track calorie intake, and set goals for your macronutrient
percentage or gram breakdown regarding protein, carbs and fats. Other useful features such as recording specific metrics. Weight and
height are just two such examples. MyFitnessPal has many more features so please check it out if you are not already familiar. MyFitnessPal also has an excellent Apple Watch companion app which reports on calories, macros, water consumption, steps, and more! The Health app keeps you motivated by showing you how much you move. For Cardio Activities, StrengthCompass recommends Strava! Strava is great for recording and tracking progress with Cycling, Swimming, and Running activities. It can also broadcast workouts from other apps – for example when doing a workout on a Concept 2 rowing machine, it will sync this with Strava. Strava turns every iPhone and Android into a sophisticated running and cycling computer and works with your GPS watches and head units, too. Strava is also an excellent social network for athletes. Record an activity and it goes to your Strava feed, where your friends and followers can share their own races and workouts, give kudos to great performances and leave comments on each other’s activities. The Strava Apple Watch companion app is extremely convenient, and usess GPS to track your workouts and sync with your smart phone when connected.
