What are the symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse? – Frankfort Regional Medical Center

Pelvic organ prolapse is where
the muscles and the tissue that support the pelvic organs,
like the cervix and uterus, get weak over time,
and they start to drop. And so the uterus in
its normal position starts to fall further
down into the pelvis and actually out into
the vagina or beyond. Symptoms of pelvic
organ prolapse include things like
vaginal pressure. Most people complain
of the sensation of feeling like something is
down there that shouldn’t be. Some women will feel discomfort,
pain with intercourse, they may have some
abnormal bleeding. Some people will have difficulty
either holding their bladder or maybe even initiating
going to the bathroom. They have a hard time
going to the bathroom, either urinating or
having bowel movements. They have a difficult
time with those.
