What Low Back Atrophy Looks Like [Chiropractor in Denville, NJ]

Hey, I’m Dr. Chris with Barefoot Rehab your local chiropractor in Denville New Jersey. This is our buddy Razzak, we’re treating him for some low back pain. He’s a power lifter so he does a lot of heavy-duty lifting and he just has some minor low back pain here or there – he’s had it for years. We’ve treated him before with our new low back bench that we’ve been working with. We noticed that as he was on the table that he has some relatively significant atrophy from about L4 to S1 that’s not everywhere in his low back it’s very localized. This happens when somebody can have a pre-existing disc issue or sometimes people are born with it. All we know is that we noticed it and we’re going to try to pay attention to see if it gets any better so what I’m gonna have you do Vanessa come on down and I’m gonna see if I can show you the difference. This is normal muscle mass. I can push down with pressure and I immediately get resistance back against my thumb when I push in this area, I immediately sink in and it’s a lot more hollow than it is in this spot. Right now, I’m putting equal weight into both of my thumbs and hopefully you can see that my right thumb or the left side of the camera is … the thumb is deeper than it is with my left thumb or on the right side of the camera. So with treatment to remove adhesion from his joint capsules from L4 to S1, I’m hoping that over the next few weeks this muscle mass just naturally comes back. If it doesn’t we’ll just have to be mindful about how he uses the low back to the extent that he wants longevity in living his life relatively pain free. I’m Dr. Chris Barefoot Rehab. Have a great day
